Increasing dining and social space to address operational and Health & Safety issues cost effectively is often a challenge for organisations in the education sector. Similarly, an appealing array of Sixth Form facilities that contribute to attracting students will be high on the agenda for any successful school. Lambeth Academy’s impressive new ZONE™ Glazed Enclosed Structure ticks all the boxes! It has provided high quality, ambient space for the Sixth Form Restaurant, relieving pressure on the adjoining dining hall and perhaps most importantly a project completion on time and within budget!
With a construction phase of just 8 weeks on site and all manufacturing taking place offsite, the new structure with its distinctive graphite design aesthetic contrasts with the natural stone façade of the Academy buildings to stunning effect, and is now the fourth dining project for United Learning delivered successfully by Streetspace.
The ZONE™ Glazed Enclosed Structures offer a high degree of design flexibility that is difficult to achieve with traditional build extensions or indeed off-the-shelf enclosed canopies. This example is no exception! Its depth increases from four metres to six metres to maximise the use of the limited floor space available on this inner London site, the right hand elevation sits at 130 degrees to the rear elevation so it can connect to the dining hall, and it had to fit beneath a first floor balcony.
The Sixth Form Restaurant has a specially developed resin bound stone surface to match the colour and appearance of the dining hall altro flooring, and is fitted out with a selection of space efficient bar stools and tables to provide a very social environment for the students. All ZONE™ Glazed Enclosed Structures are fully compliant with Building Regulations, and more and more schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK are realising this innovative approach is the solution to their dining capacity needs.
