As with many schools built within the last five years, Chalk Hills Academy in Luton has superb new facilities but insufficient dining space for growing student numbers. The obvious answer here was to cover the outdoor area adjacent to the dining hall to create a covered dining space, which as it’s surrounded by buildings on three sides could create a sheltered environment for the students at a competitive price. Having settled on this solution the next challenge for the Academy was to find a canopy design to complement the contemporary architectural style of the new school buildings, without looking out of place.
3D visualisations of the new 23.0m x 11.0m Triton maxx™ Steel Frame canopy in location with the adjacent buildings gave the Chalk Hills Academy SLT confidence that Streetspace would deliver the right solution for them. Having obtained planning consent, the structure was installed in the May half term week. All in a day’s work (well 7 days actually) for the Streetspace projects team, installing in a tight timeframe with minimal disruption to the operations of a busy Academy!
