Reduced capital funding? Find traditional build performance with new normal affordability

Having been unsuccessful in bids to the Department of Education for CIF funding, this Gloucestershire school had been working hard to raise the finance for their dining hall project by hosting a number of fundraising events. But with costs for a traditional build still double what they had managed to secure in pledges, their urgently needed Dining Hall project had lost momentum.

In January 2016 we approached the school with our ZONE™ Glazed Building concept. Working closely with the SLT, our team designed an architecturally stunning glazed building to match the profile of the extension that had planning consent in place. Not only does the new structure achieve above benchmark for energy efficiency with its highly efficient warm roof design and solar control glazing, but it requires only amendments to the existing planning consent and most significantly the project could be completed with the funds that had already been pledged! This is surely refreshing news for education establishments needing to expand covered space in the face of reducing availability of capital – without compromising building performance.

For reassurance that their choice would create the right environment, the leadership team visited two completed ZONE™ Glazed Buildings by Streetspace. Suitably impressed, an instruction to proceed with submitting amendments to the planning application followed, enabling the project groundworks to be undertaken during the summer holiday. With the offsite manufacturing accounting for the significant part of the construction process, they can expect to have the extension completed within 10 weeks on site.
